Senior Stephanie Johnson singing on stage with Green Day-- again.

Senior Stephanie Johnson showed up early for Green Day’s concert this past Saturday and stood ticket-less outside of Shoreline Amphitheatre, only to have a roadie hand her row-2 tickets 20 minutes before the doors opened. In August of last year, Stephanie was pulled on stage to sing  “Are We the Waiting”. Last Saturday, she got to do it again. What are the odds?

This was Green Day’s final show of their U.S. tour and their excitement to finally be back in the Bay Area added to their already high-energy performance, complete with a myriad of pyrotechnics. (You will be happy to know that the PAC actually has the ability to make mushroom fireball clouds too). The band, composed of lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, drummer Tré Cool, and bassist Mike Dirnt, anticipated an awesome last performance. Billie Joe giggled throughout the concert, inserted references to California into songs, lay down on the stage while singing, wore a feather boa, mooned the crowd, pretended to have sex with the stage and more. Billie Joe said it himself; they “saved the best for last”.

Throughout the show, audience members were asked to come up and sing various songs, some alongside Billie Joe and some solo. Stephanie got pulled up during “Are We The Waiting” and received both a hug and a kiss from Billie Joe. She pretended to stumble around and it appeared like she was having a heart-attack afterwards.

This was Stephanie’s third Green Day Show, but the likelihood of her being asked to sing the same song, for the second time, was slim to none.

“I’m thinking he had to have remembered me,” she mused.

We all have our teenage dreams, it’s just that some people have them come true- twice.

Stephanie said, “That night had to be the luckiest and greatest night of my life-he kissed me for christ’s sake!”
