Homecoming: Night at The Museum
Normally, when a student hears the word “museum”, the word “party” is the last thing that comes to mind. However, for the L.A. themed homecoming dance this year, M-A has incorporated both.
Instead of the dance being held at Redwood City’s grand Fox Theater as originally planned, homecoming will take place at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos on October 23rd at 7:30 pm.
Around campus, everyone is wondering what caused this last-minute switch in venues. When asked about the change, Mr. Stuart replied, “The dance at the Fox had to be canceled because the owner fell into financial difficulties.” Due to an unfortunate series of events, the Fox Theater is being foreclosed. To add to this unlucky incident, the theater will be up for auction on the steps of the San Mateo courthouse the day before homecoming.
“Although we are saddened that it won’t be at the Fox, we are very excited about the new location,” says Stuart. According to Stuart, because M-A had to find a new venue on such short notice, “we are lucky that the Hiller has an open date,”
With historical exhibits filling the inside, and airplanes in the back, the Hiller Aviation Museum is an uncommon choice for a dance. Due to the short notice, the school did not have any other options. Many students have mixed views about the location, predicting the dance will be “interesting” or “lame, but better than it would be if we had it at MA.”
Emma Canny, a sophomore, said, “I feel that it will be alright, but it doesn’t really seem like a place that would be good for homecoming.” Junior Tommy Selby, said that he “doesn’t really care that much.”
The same decorator has been hired that was used last year, so students can expect a similarly remarkable set-up. Stuart assures students that the Hiller family is providing M-A with “red-carpet treatment.” Hopefully, with amazing accommodations, décor to rival last year’s, and M-A’s unparalleled enthusiasm for good times, M-A in L.A. will be a night to remember.

Do we get to dance in the planes?

Sounds like a pretty cool place. Went to a bar mitzah there in 7th grade, I’m about 80% certain it will be fun, but I won’t know. Yay for Menlo Park Library’s teen night.
