On Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, three people were killed by the CalTrain in a span of two hours.

According to Palo Alto Online, Gary Carter, 47, was killed at 10:20am near Fremont, the first fatality of the day.

The second death occurred less than an hour later, at 11:10am, Donald Larson, 48, was hit and killed at the California Avenue train station in Palo Alto.

Jayne Cox, 27, died after she was hit just north of the Menlo Park train station at 12:13pm.

It is unclear whether these seemingly unrelated instances were suicide attempts or mere accidents, but the police force is investigating the three deaths.

TheseĀ mark theĀ 14th, 15th, and 16th fatalities on the CalTrain tracks in this year alone, a particularly high death toll compared to recent years.
