News: Kilns Cause Power Crash at Arena Check-in
Some students at arena check-in this year were left waiting in exceptionally long lines because the online check-in process was unavailable that morning.
Administrative Vice Principal Mr. Losekoot shed light upon the cause of this malfunction, attributing it to an electrical complication that ensued from the installation of two new kilns for the ceramics department at M-A.
“In order to hook the kilns up to the power grid we had to turn off the power. When we went to turn it back on, there was a surge in the system.”
This power surge shut down the servers on campus, debilitating the online arena check-in portal and the guidance office network.
Ceramics teacher Ms. Gutof commented that as the PTA had recently donated these new kilns, the ceramics department was anxious to get them up and running before the start of school. Nobody anticipated anything going awry.
Losekoot estimates that the power was down between 8:30 and noon on August 13, overlapping directly with arena check-in. Senior Iines Honkavaara expressed her frustration at having to “wait in line for like two and a half hours.”
According to Losekoot, the people on campus at the time were unable to restore power to the school, the administration called staff from the district to help, and eventually a team from Cisco fixed the problem.
