Opinion: The Welcome Back Dance: A Great Kick-Off for the Year
Since I started at M-A, it seemed like there has been one golden rule to social success: don’t go to dances – they’re lame. With the exception of prom, it seems that dances, especially the Welcome Back Dance, are looked upon negatively. This year, I decided to go to the Welcome Back Dance, because as a senior, what could be better than watching a bunch of uncomfortable freshman awkwardly trying to meet new people and dance?
When I walked into the New Gym this past Friday, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Leadership killed it. The DJ, the lighting, the whole atmosphere was great.
The mix was mainly freshmen and sophomores, with a handful of juniors scattered in as well, but the crowd meshed well. The DJ kept the energy level high (although I was disappointed he never played ‘NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”), which helped maintain an engaged crowd.
I have to hand it to Mr. Amoroso and Mr. Senigaglia: the Welcome Back Dance they put together was a huge success; if these are the kinds of events our student body is going to get with these two men in charge, I’d urge all of you to get excited for the upcoming year.
