With Kaepernick Here to Stay, What Will Happen to Smith?

Now that Kaepernick has proven himself in the playoffs, it is certain that he will be the Forty-Niner’s quarterback for the future.  This raises the question, what will become of Alex Smith, now that his job has been taken?

Alex Smith will most likely leave San Francisco after this season, becoming a free agent.  There is really no chance that he will ever get another chance to play for the Niners.  The only thing that Kaepernick had against him was his questioned ability to win in the playoffs, as he had never played a playoff game before. With a record setting day against the Green Bay Packers in the first round, all doubts about his playoff ability have quickly gone away.  With this said, there is no reason for Smith to play over Kaepernick.

To me, Smith needs to go to Arizona. A Cardinals team that struggled this year at the quarterback position is in desperate need of a solid quarterback.  And Alex Smith is a solid quarterback. Just because his job got taken does not take anything away from his ability to play.  Arizona has an outstanding wide receiver in Larry Fitzgerald, but have been unable to utilize his abilities with sub par qb’s. With Smith’s maturity and post season experience,  combined with Fitz’s skills, the Cardinals could easily move up on the ladder of the NFC west.
