Wild Cards on the Giants Roster for 2013
The Giants have been one of the most dominant teams in the MLB over the last few years. However, in order to keep pace with the other young, elite teams in the MLB, a few key players need to step up and perform.
The obvious first choice is Tim Lincecum. He has seen his stats drop severely in the years past, and he specifically needs to start performing this season. He has to get back to that point where no one thinks the Giants can win when hes on the mound. He has to get back to the 200+ strikeout seasons he’s known for. He has to get back to dominance in order for the Giants to go places this year.
Another key pitcher for the Giants is Brian Wilson. Coming off of Tommy-John surgery, he is a huge if for the Giants. If he can come back in the same form as he was in 2010, it would provide essential late game support out of the bullpen. With an injury like he sustained, though, only time will tell if he’s able to come back.
In the field, Marco Scutaro is a big “what if”. He had a superb season last year, but he’s getting older. The question still stands, can he stay at such an elite level for another season? Conversely, can the young guys like Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, and Gregor Blanco step up and play consistently at an elite level?
Regardless of these “wild cards”, the Giants have put together a formidable team going into Spring Training. Once the regular season begins, we will see if they can continue their level of play.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Wilson is on the roster anymore…
