Bracketology: Battle of the No. 1s

Guest blogger Whittaker Jellins come on to share his opinions on the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

My pick to win it all this year is the Louisville Cardinals. With abundant momentum coming off their Big East Championship win last Sunday, one of the best coaches in college basketball, and important bench depth, I believe that Louisville will be the last team dancing this year. In last year’s tournament, the Cardinals made it all the way to the Final Four, where they lost to future champions Kentucky. Now, returning four of five starters, including senior point guard and team leader Peyton Siva, they look poised for another long run this year. They posses a strong defense and a force in the middle in 6’11″ center Gorgui Dieng. The Cardinals also have a deep bench that includes sharpshooter Russ Smith who can provide instant offense as soon as he enters the game. Coming from the Midwest section, they will be forced to face tough opponents such as Michigan State or possibly Saint Louis, but their head coach Rick Pitino is a seasoned veteran in March, and has the tools to survive and advance. Add this all up, and you have Louisville winning it all to become the 2013 NCAA Champions.
