Head Football Coach Resigns

Rosso last season.

On Sunday, Tony Rosso announced his resignation from the Menlo-Atherton football team, effective immediately. Even after finishing last place in PAL and ending with a 1-9 record, the decision allegedly has no relation to the team’s performance. Rosso’s plans for the future are uncertain as he will be moving to Colorado for family reasons.

“Rosso is a good man with good intentions, but he wasn’t meant to coach the M-A football team,” says outside linebacker Dan Mohr.

Just one year removed from a CCS championship over Wilcox, the Bears have a history of success, however the team has had two coaching changes in as many years. Junior wide receiver Chris Chavolla remains confident for the future stating that “it is the greatest thing that could have happened to the M-A program. We are going to be absolutely raw next year.”

Finding a suitable head coach is the next step for the program, but it may be tough to find a high caliber coach for a 1-9 football team. Several players have expressed their interest in Salofi Tautua’a Sr., who coached the JV squad to a 9-1 record one year ago. However there is no confirmed report that the athletic department is pursuing Mr. Tautua’a or any head coach at the moment.
