A Historic Victory for Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ soccer team, rolling with their early success, made the highlight of their season thus far with a historic win against Carlmont High School last Tuesday. They prevailed with a score of 2-0. Mallory Stevens and Jenn Kirst’s two goals sealed the victory that broke the decade-long losing streak against the Carlmont dynasty.
The Lady Bears were feeling confident before the match, after meaningful wins in both scrimmages and the Lemoore Tournament. Mallory Stevens declared, “Being on varsity all four years, I feel that this is the best team I’ve ever been on. The success we had at the Lemoore Tournament and our win against Carlmont should be indicative of the rest of our season.” At the tournament, the optimistic soccer team beat Sanger, Monache, and Lemoore high schools.
Vanessa Renkel and Jenn Kirst’s offense have proved to be overpowering early on in the season. Jenn Kirst leads the team with 13 goals. Mallory Stevens and the rest of the Bears’ defense have held opponents to only 21 goals this year while the offense has tacked on 30.
The team had the winter break off before entering the regular season that began early in January. They look promising with the win over Carlmont, and now stand at a record of 6-3-2.
