With 11 new team members on this season’s roster, the M-A varsity baseball team is dominated by a new vibe.
The Bears are looking to rebuild their team after losing nine seniors, including key players Dylan Cook and Nick Lange. Seniors Alex Aguiar, Charles Grose, James Kollar-Gasiewski, and Matthew LaDouceur will return as team veterans this spring, as well as junior Erik Amudson, who will carry the pitching staff.
“We lost our team chemistry along with our graduating seniors,” comments Aguiar, “Rebuilding our leadership and chemistry is key to success. The juniors are going to have to step up and play like they know how. I have confidence in everyone on the team and we are going to have to play as a team in order to win.”
Those new to the team include juniors Charlie Cain, Paul DeTrempe, Joshua Gabriel, Lawson Joos, Jordan Long, Randy Lopez, Colin Martell, Leo McCabe, Brett Moriarty and Rene Cruz, as well as sophomore Matthew McGarry.
Head coach Mike Amoroso is most looking forward to playing cross-town rival Menlo. He encourages the student body to come out for the games, even offering extra credit to his students for staying the duration of five innings.
“We are looking forward to a great season and hope to accomplish our goal of CCS playoffs,” says Aguiar, “We want to make a statement as a public school this year, as we are often overlooked because of the private schools. We will have many opportunities by playing some quality teams.”
The Bears will take on Woodside in the first home game of the season on Monday, February 18th at Bettencourt Field.
