This past Sunday, the M-A Cheerleading team took first place at the National Cheer Association (NCA) Norcal Classic competition in Sacramento.

This year was the first time for the M-A cheerleading team to compete in the Norcal Classic, an end of season competition for cheer and dance squads throughout the west coast (including California and Nevada). Although the M-A cheer squad has competed in other similar west coast end of season competitions, finishing in fifth place two years ago and third place last year, this was the squad’s first win in recent history.

On top of this being the cheer squad’s first recent big win, it is also coach Kat Jacobs’ first win with the M-A squad considering that this is her first year coaching them.

Junior and third year cheerleader Liviera Leebong attributes this past Saturday’s win to the “really dedicated people” on the squad. Although the M-A cheerleading squad did not qualify for national competitions earlier this year, Leebong hopes that this win will help motivate the squad next year to reach their goal of competing on a national level.
