The boys track runners line up for a race (2012).

With an outstanding 2012 team and season, “the best team in school history,” as Coach Perry explained it, the M-A coed track team looks to continue their success this year in upcoming season.

Although they will be suffering a few major losses on the boys side- Dijon Willams, Jordan Scandlyn, Michael Hester, and Jack Beckwith- they still have high hopes for some new emerging stars, and the key runners, now seniors, George Baier and John Lovegreen, should hold up the team as well.

“The boys team did lose a lot. We still have George Baier and John Lovegreen and a few other good athletes in that I think if we find a couple more, we could have a pretty successful season as well,” comments Coach Perry.

Senior, George Baier agrees, “we’re looking for a strong return this year,” and “personally, I’m looking forward to competing at CCS and hopefully winning state again.”

The girls track team did lose a few key point-scorers as well- Katherine Carpenter and Payton Bush- but there is a lot of young talent on the girls side that should make them an even stronger team this season.

“The girls should be dominant this year,” Baier anticipates, “with almost all top athletes returning plus some new additions from the varsity girls cross country team, which included five freshmen.”

“The girls team should be really good this year; they should be one of the top teams in CCS,” Perry adds.

Competition for the track team is yet to begin, and everyone is ready for the season the start.

“Practice drags on in the beginning because nobody really knows exactly what they are working towards yet, so when meets start in a couple of weeks it will be nice,” Perry explains.

Their first meet, against Terra Nova High, is at home on March 7th.
