Sports: M-A Cross Country Close Win to Start the PAL Season
The M-A cross country team captured a narrow victory against the 16 other PAL teams at Westmoor High School on Wednesday.
M-A won 4 of the 5 races, unfortunately losing the Varsity boys race. In a dominant performance by the Bears, sophomore Madeleine Baier won the Varsity girls race just ahead of M-A senior, Taylor Fortnam. In addition, freshman Sophia Goland won the Open girls race, and sophomore, Kevin Conrad won the boys Frosh-Soph race.
Senior Zach Plante also placed well in the Varsity boys race, running the 2.4 mile course in 12:42, the second fastest in school history.
Freshman Faith Dunn pulled through with a tie-breaking finish, capturing a victory for the Varsity girls as well.
Head Coach Eric Wilmurt adds that Dunn’s performance was especially needed because the girls were missing three top runners: Maddie Worden, Annalisa Crowe and Katie Beebe due to injuries. He looks forward to their recoveries, and even more success on the girl’s side.
The team looks forward to their upcoming PAL races, and having the injured girls back and healthy for their upcoming race at Half Moon Bay on September 18th. Half Moon Bay is their top competition in the league.
