Sports: Girls Varsity Cross Country Team Breaks School Record
Last Thursday, the M-A girls varsity cross country team trampled the school record with the fastest combined race time at Crystal Springs since 1984.
Sophomores Madeleine Baier, Katie Beebe, Maddie Worden, and seniors Taylor Fortnam and Annika Roise ran a combined time of 96:54 over the five kilometer race course, a minute and 19 seconds faster than the previous record, even with nearly half the team recovering from injuries.
Baier, Beebe, Fortnam, and Roise all beat their personal records with times of 18:37, 19:06, 19:07, and 19:41 respectively, while Worden, one of the runners recovering from an injury, ran her best time of the season with 20:23. Sophomore Annalisa Crowe, also recovering from an injury, nearly made the list of runners on the team record with a time of 20:54.
The varsity girls won their race and though the varsity boys expect tough competition from Half Moon Bay and Carlmont, they placed 2nd in theirs. With P.A.L. Finals approaching on November 9th and Central Coast Section Finals a week later on November 16th, coaches Eric Wilmurt and Alan Perry hope to see the varsity girls break their own record and for a team victory at League Championships.
