Sports: Girls Varsity Soccer Eager to Improve on Last Years' Success

Junior Sasha Geonzon handles the ball in a game against Paly last season.

After losing by a narrow margin to Woodside in CCS quarterfinals last season, girls varsity soccer enters this season with determination and excitement. Despite graduating eight seniors with the class of 2013, Coach Paul Snow has put together yet another strong group of girls anxious to make it farther into CCS.

Well into their pre-season play, the Bears uphold a record of 3 wins and 2 ties. The wins include victories over Palo Alto (2-1) and St. Ignacious (2-1). Each of these games were low scoring, a testament to this year’s promising defense.

In anticipation for the upcoming season, Snow comments, “I think we have what it will take to compete against any of our league foes, as well as the major powerhouses in CCS.”

Senior captains Olivia DelRosso and Cayla Stillman, along with four other seniors, hope to lead their younger teammates to victory.  The team looks to capitalize on their combination of youth and experience to carry them through the season.

The Bears will play their first league game at home against Aragon on January 7th. Visit the M-A Athletics website for the full schedule, and be sure to support the Bears throughout the season.
