Sports: Girls Varsity Soccer Sweeps First Two League Games
After playing Aragon and Sequoia last week, the girls varsity soccer team kicked off league play with not only two wins, but two shutouts. With their overall record of 6 wins, no losses, and 2 ties, the girls enter their second week of league with a clean sweep.
Tuesday’s game against Aragon ended 3-0. The Bears faced the Dons for their first league game at home. Within the first half, senior Sabiha Viswanathan and sophomore Sarah Mcleod scored consecutively, establishing their superior offense early on. Junior Annie Harrier scored the third and final goal of the game. Returning from an injury, goalie sophomore Ilana Winawer played spectacularly, preventing any shots from going past her.
On Thursday, the girls made quite a statement defeating Sequoia 5-0 on Raven turf. Four of the five goals were scored during the first half alone. Scores of the night were Annie Harrier (junior), Sarah Mcleod, Talia Missan (sophomore), and Amanda Wiseman (junior). Sarah Mcleod made the final successful shot during the last ten minutes.
Captain Olivia DelRosso (senior) comments, “At the beginning we were trying to figure out our teammates style of play and to really build up our chemistry these last couple of games.I am so happy with the way we have started off. Hopefully we can continue to play this well throughout the season. Compared to last season, I feel that we have even more talent and have picked up some very good players.” She also adds that they “plan to be one of the stronger teams in [their] league.”
Their next game is on Tuesday the 14th at 5 p.m. against San Mateo High School on Coach Park’s Field. Keep it up, bears, and good luck!
