The coming of spring means the start of MA’s boys’ golf season. This year, the Khaki-clad boys will be led by senior captains Grant Johnson and AJ Connell. With the loss of only one senior from last year, and the new addition of first year seniors Brooks Bowden and Jake Bassin, Johnson is confident the team will be able to surpass last years 3rd place finish. Last season, the boys missed out on a chance at CCS by only two strokes. This year there are six seniors on the team, providing them with the extra motivation they need to carry the team into one of the coveted CCS spots as they each push to make their last high school season a strong one.
While the team didn’t lose many players from last season, they did lose a coach. Bennett Von stepped down as the boys’ golf coach, to be succeeded by their first female coach, Jennifer Taylor.
Despite the coaching change up, the boys are excited to come back to the sport they love. Senior Thomas Susser is confident going into the season. As he sees it “golf is the easily the chillest sport” after all, “80% of golf is looking good, so if you’re good at looking good, you’re good at golf.” Simply put by senior Paul Iwashita “Golf is fun!”
