Bears Lacrosse Makes Statement with Win over Menlo

Friday night the Bears took down the Menlo Knights by a score of 14-3,  clinching the third seed in the playoffs.

 

The game was utter domination right from the start as the Bears shut out Menlo in the first quarter. Menlo had many offensive possessions in the to start the game off, but great defense from M-A kept them off the scoreboard. In addition, senior goalie Griffin Waymire made some great saves to keep the shut out going.

 

In the second quarter, the Bears turned the close game into a rout. Senior Nick Schlein had an acrobatic spin move goal that completely dazzled the crowd and fired up the Bear bench.  They took a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime embarrassing Menlo and establishing M-A’s momentum for the remainder of the game.

 

At the start of the second half, it was apparent that Menlo did not change their approach, and continued to struggle offensively. They finally broke the shutout at the end of the third, but  were still being dominated at both ends of the field.

 

Throughout the rest of the game, M-A continued to dominate. When it was set and done M-A won the game 14-3. The decisive win gives the Bears much needed momentum heading into the playoffs.

 

Junior Peyton Uphoff touched on the Bears success, saying “as a team we have really clicked on all cylinders in the past 4 or so games. Defensively we are communicating, which allow to really work as a unit. And offensively we are dominating the time of possession and really working to find not a good shot, but the best shot.”

 

M-A now embarks on their journey to win a third straight championship as they enter the postseason as a #3 seed.
