In the first round of the playoffs, the Bears beat Los Altos by a score of 10-1. They will advance to go head to head with Palo Alto later this week.

The Bears started out fast as they took a quick 3-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Senior defender Jake Barry had an outstanding and rare defender goal at the end of the quarter to strengthen the M-A lead. The defense also had a great quarter, keeping Los Altos off the scoreboard and holding them to just a few shots.

In the second quarter the Bears added another three unanswered goals making the score 6-0 by halftime. Whenever Los Altos had any opportunity to score, senior goalie Griffin Waymire made stellar saves to maintain the shutout.

The third quarter was more of the same, as M-A added three more goals to Los Altos’ zero. Senior Duncan McGinnis added to the Bear lead with a remarkable spin move and shot to beat the defender and score. The M-A defense continued to shut down the Los Altos attack, anchored by Waymire’s outstanding play. It wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter that Los Altos finally scored. That would be their only goal, as M-A took the game 10-1.

“Defensively we played really well,” said junior Peyton Uphoff. “[We] worked as a unit and we controlled the ball on the offense.”

Next, the Bears continue their quest for a three-peat as they go on the road to Palo Alto in the semifinals.
